ESG je samo skraćenica – suština je u prepoznavanju i upravaljanju značajnim uticajima, kreiranju dugoročne vrednosti i OTPORNOSTI.
ESG nije sinonim za održivi razvoj – ESG faktori su potencijalni elementi održivog razvoja kojima se pokušava izmeriti stepen ugrožavanja mogućnosti da narednim generacijama ostavimo zadovoljavajuće resurse i mogućnosti.
Održiva otpornost – Nažalost prešli smo većinu planetarnih prirodnih granica (preterano zagrevanje, zagađenje vode, vazduha i zemljišta, intezivna eksploatacija resursa i dr.), moraćemo u velikoj meri da se adaptiramo na izmenjene uslove uz otpornost na česte neočekivane situacije. Stoga mislim da ćemo sve više morati ovaj termin da koristimo umesto termina održivi razvoj.
ESG ima svoje geografske varijacije koje značajnu utiču na razumevanje suštine – Evropski ESG: baziran na EU Zelenom dogovoru, primarno vođen regulacijom i standardizacijom. U ovoj verziji ne postavlja se pitanje da li je važno i isplativo implementirati upravljanje ESG-jem u poslovanje. AmeričkiESG: poprilično politizovan i uključuje standardne kritične američke teme (posebno u S delu). Ono što je takođe bitno za ovu verziju je to što je, po meni, preteran fokus na ESG-u kao temi koja je isključivo vezana za tržište kapitala i ESG rejtinge. Glavno pitanje kritičara je: Koliko je isplativo upravljati ESG rizicima i prilikama? Ostali ESG: hibridna verzija prethodna dva, u njemu se mešaju različiti delovi prethodna dva oblika. Ova verzija se pojavljuje i u diskusijama kod nas, gde dolazi do čestog mešanja argumentacije zašto je ESG bitan. “Protivnici” ESG-a koriste američku argumentaciju oko isplativosti, dok oni koji podržavaju ESG (u nedostatku čvrstih dokaza isplativosti implementacije) fokusiraju se na trenutno materijalne probleme i dugoročne efekte. Nažalost, potrebno je još vremena da se tema standardizuje i da se pre svega dokažu stavovi svih tabora kroz čvrste dokaze iz primera iz prakse.
ESG izazovi (pre svega ekološki i klimatski) po meni nisu primarno tehnički i finansijski problem – mnoga tehnološka i regulatorna rešenja su razvijena ili su u povoju. Novca ima dovoljno, ali je loše kanalisan. Međutim, ogroman je problem način komunikacije ovih izazova (uglavnom negativna konotacija), a ljudska psiha nije po prirodi spremna da se odrekne određenih navika zarad benefita u daljoj budućnosti. Potrebno je pažljivo raditi na komunikaciji (lokalnih) izazova sa fokusom na (lokalne) prilike koje se javljaju.
